Dire Days

July 1st - September 7th

EVENT HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN CLOSED!

Researchers at the Tokota Cultural Association have decided to venture into the treacherous Tartok mountains to study the remaining wild dires that exist there, and they need your help. Considered to be the ancestors of the modern day Tokota, these massive creatures have the potential to teach us valuable knowledge about their behavior to help in their domestication. Due to their dangerous nature, officials have asked experienced handlers and their Tokotas to join them on this journey into Dire territory.

The Tartok mountains is home to the Desna Pack. A pack of wild Tokotas who are Dire in build, including the notorious Fenrir.
The mountain range itself is cold and dangerous. Steep cliffs and expansive caves make the landscape hard to navigate, and the dires are even harder to find.

How to Participate!

Step One:
Create your Expedition Journal, this will track your progress throughout the summer, the more active you are in the competition, the more prizes you will be eligible for!
I have made one as an example, these can be uploaded to DA, or kept in your sta.sh. Whichever you prefer.

There are three main tasks for this event which are listed below, you do not need to complete all of them, but they must be done in chronological order.
(meaning you cannot do just Task Two, you must do one then two)
Completing all three though will unlock a chance for even better prizes!
You can only enter each task once.
One handler and Tokota are permitted to enter in the task (you may add an extra Tokota if you want to get them HP, but they will not be participating) UNLESS you are collabing. If you are doing a collab, each collab partner may have one Tokota and handler in the image.

Task One

The first task at hand is to reach the research base high in the mountains. As you start the trek upwards a storm blows in, high winds and snow make the conditions a white out, will you be able to find the base?
Draw or write a story with your Tokota and Rider navigating the mountain range, through the harsh weather.

-You near the top when you hear a low throaty growl, you turn your head to see a mountain lion barreling towards you. Draw or write a story with your Tokota and Handler facing off against the mountain lion. (This may also be submitted to hunting to earn pelts)
-Upon reaching the base/your campsite, you could have sworn you saw some figures looming around the blanket of darkness. You must be seeing things you tell yourself. Draw or write a story about your Tokota and Rider settling into camp. (this may also be submitted to exploration)

Task Two

After scouting the mountain range, you see your first signs of dire activity. After following a few clues you finally spot them mid hunt. Careful as to not get to close, you and the researchers watch these magnificent creatures from afar, only to notice something odd. One of the females has a tracking collar around her neck. You start to get an uneasy feeling that you are not alone on this mountain.
Draw or write a story with your Tokota and Rider observing/and or interacting with the wild pack of Dires.

Task Three

Rumors start to circle around the group that there may be a group of criminals residing on the mountain. The same criminals that had been suspected of taking Fenrirs last straws before he was sterilized. The researchers fear the dires are being used and exploited to sell to wealthy buyers. You decide to investigate these claims by exploring the mountain a bit further. After a few hours of searching and exploring, you happen upon a very eerie valley, the rocky outcrops and looming cliffs around you make you a bit uneasy, and your Tokota as well. Out of the corner of your eye you spot movement near the dead end of the valley. A huge halfmane dire paced uneasily near the end, with its eyes fixated on you, could that be Fenrir?
He isn't alone though, several mysterious riders appear from their cover, the leader gives you a glare, accompanied by a warning that sends a chill down your spine.
"You shouldn't be here"
Draw or write a story with your Tokota and rider reacting to this situation, will you rescue Fenrir? Will you apprehend the criminals?

-You happen across an abandoned campsite, from the look of the campfire, it must be recent. Draw or write a story about your Tokota and rider investigating. (this may also be submitted to exploration)

Bonus Objectives

Throughout the event, bonus objectives with various prompts will be posted. These events will only last for a short period of time, and will have extremely cool prizes. Keep an eye out for these!

Rules and Requirements

-Each task and bonus objective requires a Tokota and handler, and they must be 80% visible
-Literature entries must be a minimum of 2000 words. (extra images only need to be 1250 words)
-Tack required
-Semi-Complex Background required
-Tracing is allowed from stock photos only, and must be credited in the description
-You may use different Tokotas for each class.
-Collabs are allowed, and earn you extra points

Submitting Your Entries

This event is a little different in that you are asked to create an expedition journal to keep track of all your entries, as seen at the top of this journal.

Prizes and Judging

Each task will be judged as an individual competition, the points breakdown will be as follows:
1-50 Rolled Randomly
1-50 Effort Points
1-10 For Correct Setting
1-10 For collabing with another member
+10 For each Bonus objective completed
(These will be posted in intervals, and will apply to specific tasks)

Failure to include handler and correct tack for each event will result in disqualification.
Effort is judged base on your own gallery.
